What is Screen Burn-In?
Screen burn-in (or image retention) is a visible discoloration or ghosting of a previous image that remains on the screen even when the display is showing something else. It typically occurs when a static image (like a UI element, taskbar, or logo) is displayed continuously for long periods. Regular diagnostic verification ensures that your hardware operates at peak factory specifications and delivers reliable performance across gaming and professional tasks.
Permanent Burn-In vs. Temporary Image Retention
It is important to understand that not all "burn-in" is permanent: Proper display adjustments also prevent excessive eye strain during long gaming or productivity sessions by balancing peak white levels with ambient room illumination. - Permanent Burn-In (OLED/CRT): Caused by uneven degradation of the sub-pixels. If you leave a bright static image on an OLED screen for hundreds of hours, the pixels emitting that image age faster and permanently lose their brightness, leaving a ghost image. This cannot be fixed.
- Temporary Image Retention (LCD/IPS): Caused by liquid crystals losing their alignment due to prolonged electrical charge. This looks identical to burn-in, but is entirely reversible by playing varied content or using a burn-in reduction tool.
